New York Office Manager

We are searching for an entrepreneurial and driven individual to manage our New York office, overlooking Union Square, and transform it into a vibrant hub of world-changing activism.

We imagine not only an office for Avaaz and other like-minded organizations to call home, but a space that helps to cross-pollinate different movements and hosts meetings, speaking events, and gatherings to organize for a better world.

Our team is currently using about half of the desk space in the office. This provides an excellent opportunity for Avaaz to fill up those remaining desks with meaningful and mutually beneficial partners. The Hub Manager will lead on filling those desks and managing the relationships.

This position is also responsible for providing a range of office support which includes managing contractors, organizing mail and supplies, arranging office lunches and meetings, while being flexible to a variety of administrative assistance associated with Avaaz’s campaigns and internal operations. The manager may need to develop procedures and improve processes.

This is beyond what is typically looked for in an office manager. We require that this person holds and drives forward a vision of what this space could become.


  • Seek out and manage external desk rentals
  • Manage physical mail inbox/outbox, supplies, and equipment
  • Organize events, speakers, and gatherings at the office to facilitate connection between those working for social justice
  • Manage contractors and service providers - internet, cleaning, general contractors/construction, utilities
  • Spearhead redesign of the office and work with architects to transform the NY office into a local organizing hub and mission based co-working space
  • Provide administrative and personal assistance as requested
  • Help out with financial and human resources tasks as requested

  • Good communication skills, both written and spoken
  • Strong computer skills preferred.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Extremely detail-oriented, conscientious, and self-motivated.
  • Ability to adjust quickly to changing conditions and requirements in an extremely fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to social justice.
  • Flexibility to work nights and/or weekends when needed
  • Fluency in English is a requirement, other languages are an asset.


Avaaz is a virtual organization, with most of our work done over email, telephone, and Skype. Our staff are based in cities all over the world and meet at team retreats twice per year. This position is based out of our Union Square office in NYC and due to the nature of the position, should be in the office 5 days a week.

Compensation and Benefits

Salary varies with experience but is highly competitive with leading nongovernmental organizations. Benefits also range with location, but include 5 weeks paid vacation per year.
